Arbitration is a way to settle a dispute outside of court by having an impartial third party make a decision. The arbitrator listens to both sides and makes a legally binding decision called a determination or award.

How arbitration works:

• The parties involved in the dispute agree to arbitration
• The parties appoint an arbitrator or panel of arbitrators
• The parties present their case to the arbitrator
• The arbitrator considers the evidence and makes an award

Our Head of Chambers, Maria Savvides, is a qualified Children’s law arbitrator. She has nearly 40 years’ experience as a barrister and in family law. This means that she can act as the “impartial third party” and make a legally binding determination on disputes involving where children live and how much time they spend with the other parent.

We also hope to add arbitration in Matrimonial finance and cohabitation (TOLATA) disputes in the near future.
