Profile: Jonathan is a door tenant at Northampton Chambers and has developed a busy and varied practice, regularly appearing in the Family Court representing parents and local authorities in public law and private law proceedings. Jonathan is also instructed regularly in relation to civil disputes, including small claims trials and case management hearings. Jonathan has also recently represented Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council in the First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) in relation to a service charge dispute.

Jonathan is also public access accredited.


Hailing from Lancashire, prior to coming to the Bar Jonathan worked in the Family Department of one of the largest law firms in the North West, firstly as a Legal Clerk and then progressing to a fee earning position handling his own cases and performing advocacy. Jonathan’s work focused on children matters and cases involving domestic violence. He gained experience of working in high profile cases requiring the instruction of Leading Counsel. Jonathan was also a Freelance County Court Advocate representing clients in personal injury matters, including Infant Settlement Hearings and MOJ Stage 3 hearings. Jonathan therefore obtained valuable experience of family and civil law prior to pupillage.

During his studies Jonathan demonstrated his strong advocacy skills through mooting. Jonathan competed in the final of the Allen and Overy Mooting Cup at the University of Birmingham, finishing in second place. Jonathan also represented the University of the Birmingham in the OUP/BPP National Mooting Competition, again finishing in second place following a final before HHJ Gratwicke in London.

Interests: Away from work Jonathan enjoys sports, particularly football and is a long suffering fan of Rochdale AFC. Jonathan also has a keen interest in travel. Jonathan has an interest in marine life and fish keeping.
